Episode 15 | A New Dawn, A New Day, She's Healing

Apr 20, 2022

Welcome to Episode #15 of the Written in Melanin Podcast.

Last week was a really rough one for me. If you listened to episode 14 of the podcast (which may or may not still be public at this point, I'm not sure if and/or when I'll take it down), then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. But as the saying goes, "weeping only endures for a night." And I'm feeling much more refreshed than I had before. So, with new decisions on the horizon and previous disappointments behind me, I'm feeling hopeful for what's to come. And in this episode I want to talk about that -- all of it: how I'm healing, giving myself space and time to process, projects I'm letting rest for a while, and projects I'm excited for coming up!

As I've been sharing with you guys I very much feel like I'm in a new season of growth, both as an author and as a person. And one of the things I've been sitting with this past week is releasing myself of the expectations I put on myself as an author. And doing that has been giving me so much more peace of mind and made me more productive.

I don't know who needs to hear this today, but I'm definitely going to say this for myself -- believe in yourself. This creative journey is not an easy one, but it's one worth being on, so keep going

Today is a special episode you guys because today, Kimberly Lemming is joining me! If you haven't heard of her before, I'm glad that ends for you today. She is the author of the Mead Mishaps series which includes THAT TIME I GOT DRUNK AND SAVED A DEMON, MISTLE FOE, and her upcoming book, THAT TIME I GOT DRUNK AND YEETED A LOVE POTION AT A WEREWOLF. These books are absolutely amazing and hilarious. If you love a fun, lighthearted adventure with a diverse cast, magical creatures, romance, and smut, then trust me when I say that her books are worth getting into. And today, we're going to be talking to you guys about writing fantasy in general, pantsing your way through the plot, and why we think you should be gaming once you're done being creative! **Content warning: this episode will contain explicit language. Please listen with headphones.**
